LG washing machine error codes

LG uses short two letter codes that stay the same whatever the age of the machine, so an OE on a ten year old washer means what it means on a new one. What does change is the type of machine: front loaders split door faults into dE1 and dE2, while top loaders have codes of their own for the clutch and the lid switch. Several LG codes share their spelling with other brands and mean something entirely different, so check the badge before buying a part.

Stop the machine if you see these

FE means water or electrical trouble rather than a blockage. Turn the tap off, unplug the machine and read the page before running another cycle.

Things that look like faults but are not

These stop people mid-wash and send them looking for a repair. None of them needs one.

CL

Child lock is on, which is why the buttons do nothing. Hold the child lock button for three seconds to release it. The machine will finish whatever cycle it is running either way.

tCL

A reminder that the tub clean cycle is due, not a breakdown. Run it with a washer cleaner or white vinegar in the dispenser and an empty drum. Skipping it for long enough is how front loaders develop the smell people blame on a fault.

PF

The power was interrupted mid-cycle. Restore power and press start to carry on. If it appears repeatedly with no outage in the house, have the outlet and the circuit checked rather than the machine.

CD

Cool down, on machines that dry as well as wash. The load is being cooled to reduce creasing at the end of a drying cycle, and it clears itself.

dr

Automatic draining, not a fault. The machine empties itself after a long pause so water is not left standing in the drum.
