Samsung dishwasher error codes

Samsung dishwashers spell the same fault differently depending on how old the machine is: older ones use an E, newer ones a C, so 5E and 5C are one and the same drain fault. The display makes it worse, because a capital S is drawn as a five and a letter O as a zero. Search whichever way you read it off the panel; the repair does not change.

Stop the machine if you see these

LC, OC, HC mean water or electrical trouble rather than a blockage. Turn the tap off, unplug the machine and read the page before running another cycle.

Things that look like faults but are not

These stop people mid-wash and send them looking for a repair. None of them needs one.

AP

Not a fault. The machine is in access point mode, waiting to be connected to your home Wi-Fi through the SmartThings app. It appears on its own after a power cut on some models. Finish the setup, or press the Smart Control button to leave the mode.
A number counting down, or a dot in the corner
A delay start is running and the machine is waiting, not broken. Press Cancel and hold it for a few seconds to clear the delay and start normally.
A padlock, or the panel ignoring every press
Child lock is on. Hold the button marked with a padlock, usually for three seconds, to turn it off. On some panels it is a combination of two buttons and the door label names them.
